It seems weird, but I'd rather get my purple a little late. There are too many things in this society are based on instant gratification, and I'd hate for jiu jitsu to be one of them. It takes time. I think Ten years for your black is about right. There's a phrase in jiu-jitsu about a guy who doesn't deserve their belt "his belt is lose," it means you were promoted without being ready. Your belt doesn't fit correctly because you haven't earned it. Anyway, just me rambling. Good post. Too many people want to rush through their belts, and jiu-jitsu has it right. It takes time.
